Our Internists
Internal Medicine, (IM), is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult-diseases. While internal medicine encompasses the care of adults, healthy and sick, many internists will obtain extensive hospital training to develop expertise in a particular specialty area such as cardiology, oncology, nephrology, or pulmonology.
Physicians who specialize in internal medicine are called Internists. General Internists serve as primary care physicians, along with family medicine doctors and pediatricians. Internists can then manage the care of many common disorders such as diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure.
The value of an internist is not only to diagnose and treat a variety of illnesses and ailments but, to coordinate patient care with other medical specialties. An internist is the patient’s advocate in the health care system, personally managing everything from a common cold to cardiac disorders and kidney disease.
